Already in the Veil Aria in the second act, she playfully uses the coloratura, awaiting Carlos in the garden for their rendezvous like a lovestruck girl, and transforming into a vengeful fury when she realizes his love belongs to the Queen. In Philip's great aria, she scores points with her intense portrayal as she sneaks out of Philip's bed, disappointed, and dons her chess costume once more. She delivers a magnificent rendition of the famous aria ‘Ô don fatal et détesté’, in which she resolves to free Carlos. After the act of liberation, she even lingers for a moment in the spotlight.”
